More on Serio Release Record Management (RFDs)

Following on an increasing demand from our customers, our development team has continued their work on improving the use of Release Records within SerioPlus. Hence, our most recent Release includes the following improvements and enhancements:

Enhancements

  • the ability to view both Active and Completed Releases within the Change Plan Diary, hence providing an overall view of all Releases injected to or to be injected into the different IT Environments

Continuous vs Scheduled Releases

This blog post is about timing considerations for the deployment of Changes into the IT infrastructure, specifically the batching together of Releases into a 'Release Window' (defined below) on the one hand, and the continuous deployment of Releases into the IT infrastructure on the other.

Deployment during a Release Window

About IT Environments

This post is aimed at people who work with Change Management and/or are looking to introduce Release Record Management.

In software and hardware deployment a Production Environment is comprised of the IT infrastructure that supports the day to day activities of the business.

Typically, 4 IT Environments are considered when preparing a Request for Deployment:

  • Development Environment

Extended Data Updates

We've added an Extended Data Editor with new functionality within Actions and Change Plans.

  • Adding Extended Data to your Actions List

This will allow you to embed the capture of Extended Data into the Actions you take, and the workflow you use.

  • Viewing and adding Extended Data to Tasks in Change Plans

You can now capture and view Extended Data in a much simpler way. We've added the ability to create an Action that captures Extended Data, and then use that Extended Data in Tasks in your Change Plan.

Creating a Change Plan Template – Part 4

This is a follow on from last week’s imaginatively titled post ‘Creating a Change Plan Template Part 3’ – follow the posts backwards to catch up.

Recap: I’m creating a simple 4 Stage Change Plan Template (CPT) on the subject of how to change a wheel. So far, I’ve done all the up-front designing I need to do, I’ve created an empty Change Plan, and into this I’ve placed 4 Stages as per my design.

Creating a Change Plan Template – Part 3

This is a follow-up to Part 2, posted last week. Recall I’m setting-up a simple 4 Stage Change Plan Template (CPT). The previous posts carry all of the background and set-up info you need.

So far, you’ve created a CPT. However, it isn’t terribly useful at the moment in that it’s just a hollow shell – it has no Stages, and no Tasks. However, as we’ve written these down beforehand it’s a simple case of data entry. Follow these steps carefully to get the rest of the data entered.
