Configuring your Device to Send SNMP Traps to Serio IT Service View
See also: Monitoring SNMP Traps Roadmap.
SNMP Traps are messages that network devices such as routers, PCs, switches, or printers send out when they detect a problem.
In order for Serio IT Service View to detect SNMP Traps, you need to configure your device (router, PC, etc.) to send its SNMP Traps to Serio IT Service View.
How this is done will vary depending on the device, and you need to consult the documentation. Most devices provide an interface that allows you to configure them to send SNMP Traps. Often this interface is in the form of a web page which you access by browsing to the device's IP Address with a web browser.
Generally there are two pieces of information you will need to configure on the device to allow Serio IT Service View to detect its SNMP Traps:
Which SNMP Traps to send. For example, if the device is a printer, it may generate SNMP Traps for various events such as low toner, jamming, out of paper, etc. You normally have to indicate which of these SNMP Traps you would like the device to send out.
Where to send the SNMP Traps. As you want the device to send the SNMP Traps to Serio IT Service View, you normally need to provide:
The IP Address of the computer where Serio IT Service View is running.
The TCP/IP Port number on which Serio IT Service View is listening for SNMP Traps (by default this is 162, but you can change this).
