Adding the MIB Files for your Device
Many network devices and software applications publish status information in the form of SNMP Variables and SNMP Traps.
Serio IT Service View can detect SNMP Traps and can read the values SNMP Variables.
In order to do so, Serio IT Service View needs to know about the types of SNMP Traps and SNMP Variables published by the device. This information is contained in a file (or files) called a MIB file (Management Information Base).
The MIB files have the extension .mib and are generally distributed with the device. You may find them on a CD, in a folder installed with accompanying software, or on the device vendor's web site. To locate the MIB files for your device, consult the device's documentation.
Once you have located the MIB file(s), you need to add it to Serio IT Service View.
To add the MIB files for your device to Serio IT Service View,
If Serio IT Service View is currently Online, then go Offline.
In the left pane of Serio IT Service View, expand 'MIB Modules', then expand 'Generic MIB'.
Expand 'Files' under 'Generic MIB'. You should see a long list of pre-installed MIB files.
Right click on 'Files' and choose 'Add MIB Files'.
In the 'Open' dialog, select your MIB file (you can use Ctrl+Click to select multiple MIB files to add).
If you scroll down the list of MIB files under 'Files', you should now see your own MIB file(s) added at the bottom.
Right click on 'Files', and choose 'Compile MIB Module'. If your MIB files have compiled correctly, you should see a blank pane at the very bottom of the 'Generic MIB' tab page on the right of the Serio IT Service View window. If you see an error message in this pane, see Troubleshooting MIB Module Compilation.
