IT Service View FAQ
| If I download IT Service View Pro, will it stop working after 30 days? | |
| No. We offer 2 versions, one free & one with a (low) license fee (click here for the feature matrix). If you download the Pro version and don't buy a license it's OK - after 30 days your software will be just the same as the free version, and will still work according to what's in the feature matrix. | |
| How do I change what I'm monitoring - for example, I want to change the Ping response time, a web page timeout value, or the minimum amount of free RAM I need on my servers? | |
The first time you set values like these it's done through the Device Setup Wizard. Later on though, when you want to change something, this is what you do: 1. Take IT Service View Offline. |
|
| What are the system requirements? | |
| Windows 2003, Windows XP or Vista with the latest Service Packs applied. | |
| What can I monitor? | |
| Basically whatever you have a Plugin for. The different types of Plugin are shown on the left besides this FAQ. | |
| I'm having some problems getting WMI to work - can you help? | |
| WMI is a standard part of Windows. Most of the time it works just fine, but it can have problems - particularly connected with user rights. We have an article on our blog called IT Service View WMI Troubleshooting Checklist that might help. | |
| How do I set-up the Devices I want to monitor? | |
It's pretty easy really. When you first start IT Service View it presents you with 2 wizards. The first Wizard helps you get email connectivity set up and tells IT Service View where the web pages should be sent to. It then presents the Device Setup Wizard. Each page in the wizard has its own help page, and it guides you through the job of choosing a Plugin, setting the properties that will make the Plugin run correctly, and determining how to handle the errors that occur. |
|
| Can I get web pages showing device information for my Intranet site, or the Internet? | |
| Yes, pretty much all the information you see on the console is available on web pages. Just set-up the directory they should be placed into when you run the main IT Service View Configuration Wizard. You can access this at any time from the Setup Wizards menu. | |
| Can I have a look at the Plugin code? | |
| Yes. Take IT Service View Offline, and then from the tree view on the left expand MIB Modules and Plugins and then expand any of the available Modules. Underneath this you'll find the Plugin code - just double-click to edit. |
