Make an Upgrade Plan
When you upgrade to Serio Release 5, all applications will need to be upgraded: SerioServer, SerioClient, SerioWeb, Command Centre - anything with a Serio badge on it.
So make a list of what needs to be upgraded. Start with your SerioServer machine. Is there a Knowledgebase Server to upgrade? What about SerioWeb? Do we use a slave server?
If all of this has left you going uh? Then open the Control Panel and go to 'Add Remove Programs'. This will tell you pretty clearly what needs to be upgraded.
Remember, write it down and make a list
This will serve to remind you what software applications need to be upgraded, and what needs to be tested after the upgrade is complete.
Make a note of what is installed on the clients, and create a plan for upgrading this. Typically 2 approaches are used to upgrade clients, as follows.
- Send an email to all those affected which has a link on your network. Engineers then upgrade their own computers (though make sure you give them the right software to upgrade, and don't offer unnecessary options like our server tools). Usually it's the SerioClient setup.exe. If you do this, make sure your engineers have sufficient local rights on their machine to install software.
- Apply the updates remotely on login, either by creating a SerioClient MSI package which some customers do, or simply by using a utility like runas to run setup.exe.
Serio applications are version aware. It is not possible for a 4.6 Client to connect to a Release 5 server.
