PocketSerio-i FAQ

Q: Is PocketSerio-i free then like SerioClient Express?
A: If you have PocketSerio licenses we will convert these to PocketSerio-i licenses free of charge. If you don't have any such licenses then the cost is £330 per license.

Q: How do I choose a suitable Device?
A: Great Question! Any device must meet this criteria: able to access the Internet, and have an Internet Browser of some kind. It doesn't need to support Javascript or anything like that, it doesn't need to be Internet Explorer, anything produced in the last year of so should be fine. Ask your device vendor if you can try before you buy.

Q: How do I choose the best Device for me?
A: Another Great Question! Not all Devices are created equal, in particular they have a massively different take on the ergonomics of hand-held computing. This means that some Devices will fit your needs better than others. The chart below might help.

Type of User Comments
Someone who basically reads information, needs to browse current ticket data but seldom actions it (they tend to use the phone to speak to colleagues) Almost any Device will fit, but a Device with a good telephone function and a small-ish screen will be OK. Make sure you test the ability of the Device to handle scrolling. Although you can try using a phone with a browser, these usually have pitiful screens so we generally advise on a PDA of some kind.
An engineer who needs to provide support out of hours sometimes. Needs to be able to Action tickets, but not too often as he'll usually update Serio when he arrives for work next morning. Ask yourself how much typing you will be doing. Some Devices don't have keyboards, and writing something involves using a keypad like when sending a text message. You may find this irritating. If the Device has a virtual keyboard, try to find out how useful you find it. Aside from using PocketSerio, decide what else you might want to do with it, and bear in mind not all web applications will work in all hand-held Devices.
A power user. You work in a van or car, and tickets get passed to you for resolution, and you don't envisage using a desk that often. A keyboard is essential - either a physical keyboard or a virtual keyboard. You need a keyboard because you'll be sending support emails and resolving tickets. Make sure you try the keyboard and see how it fits - some Devices have keyboards that are like tests of skill, others are impressive in terms of design and ergonomics. You may also find that you need a larger screen (some Devices has relatively large screens, others relatively small). Ask yourself if you need a screen that can be read outdoors - not all Devices are good at this. Lastly, try to find out what the typical battery life is.
