WMI not working Can't find Serio Inventory Agent

Greetings. I have 4 out of 5 servers working, but the last and most important server will not play nice. WMI will not work, and I cannot find the Serio Inventory Agent to install on this server to use SNMP.

In the documentation it states that this file is in the downloaded directory but the only file there is setup.exe. I looked through the installed directory and can't find anything either.

Any help would be most appreciated. Where can I find the Serio Inventory Agent?

Thanks.

It usually just works

The Inventory Agent usually just works. The most common problem is port numbers : for example, installing with port 17070 but entering 161 into ITSV.

If the Agent has trouble, it will put messages into the event log on the machine - so have a look in there. The event log can also be used to confirm the port it's using.

If the ports are definitately OK, the only question is: is the machine multi-homed, or does it have muliple IP addresses? It's funny that the Agent and WMI don't work, and may indicate some more fundemental problem.

If the machine is multi-homed you can enter the IP address to use on Agent install.

Other than that I can't think of much else to try.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply. The computer is not multi-homed. I tried reinstalling SP2 on this box. There was a second NIC in it and I changed over to that. Again, I can ping the box, I can get out on the internet with the box - so the network is operational. I have done a port scan and 17070 is opened and working. I was getting a service or driver failed message when booting the computer - but it was a leftover backup program which I have since disabled the service and the error is gone. Other than that the box seems perfect, but with this error.

But, I finally got it. I don't quite know why, but turning off the firewall on the box worked. Even though the ports were opened, and all looked good, the windows firewall was blocking ALL incoming traffic. The box is now working fine.

Thanks for all the help...

Stupid windoze firewall...........;-)

WMI is good sometimes...

WMI is great when it works, not so great when it doesn't.

There is a troubleshooting page for WMI here:

Is this doesn't work you can try the inventory agent with ITSV (make sure you use a port that is likely to be free, and make a note of it!)

The agent is for Win 2003/2008.

thanks

I did all the steps troubleshooting WMI. No luck. I've already opened the port for SNMP, I just could not find the file to install.

Great, awesome. Thanks. I'm about to try it.

snmp not working - now I'm confused

Greetings. Installed Serio Inventory Agent - checked services and it is up and running. I gave access permissions to the administrator. I opened the ports being used on the firewall - did a port scan and confirmed that the ports are indeed open - they are. I know I am using the proper computer name and ip address. I can ping the box from the monitoring box. All seems good. But no response either from WMI or SNMP.

Any ideas where to go from here?

Thanks. Again, it is only this one box that is being a pain......
